WELCOME! I am Lucia Paxton, a modern Renaissance woman. Besides running a professional photography business, I homeschool our daughter, cook at summer camps, create costumes, run, speak Italian and Spanish, and collect vintage clothing. I hang out with my amazing husband of 15 years, Trevor, and my incredibly talented daughter, here in Santa Cruz, CA. For the record, my name is pronounced the Italian way, “LOO–CHIA.” That's right, Lucia! (You just said my name with an Italian accent, didn’t you?)

My fascination with photography began at a young age. I would create scenes, dress myself up and set the auto timer in hopes of getting a perfect shot. Sometimes I'd dress up my little sisters too.

This passion continued, as I learned more about photography and continued as a hobbyist into college. With camera always in hand, friends started inviting me places to be their official photographer.  I began photographing pregnant mamas, birth, babies, and life celebrations. Those were fun days, I delighted in each experience: dressing pregnant mamas, capturing an incredibly sensual time in a woman's life, seeing the connection between partners, I loved it then and I still do.

Shortly after the birth of my daughter, Zephyra, in 2000, the most natural thing happened. My passion  morphed into a new career.

Pregnancy and birth, especially home birth and art photography, are specialties of mine. I have recently added informal weddings, portraiture, including professional head shots.

I'd describe my photography style as artsy, quirky, eclectic, and raw. I go for composition, rarely cropping my photos. Favoring natural light and shoot on-location, I normally do not work inside a studio. The digital age has made it fun for me to apply my fine arts background in the editing room.
